Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about SVA Plant Based Hair Dyes.

Q. Will my hair turn orange with SVA Plant Dyes since it has henna?

NO. SVA hair dyes are a combination of pure henna and indigo dyes. This helps achieve shades like medium brown, deep brown, blackish brown or Jet Black. Our 2-step kits guarantee 100% grey coverage and no orange hair.

Q. Will henna dry my hair?

No, SVA Henna will not dry your hair. On the contrary it will deep condition, nourish and boost hair shine. Unfortunately most henna sold in the market is either poor grade or adulterated. Also henna sold for hands is not meant for hair use.

SVA Henna is formulated for hair use only by our expert Deepali Razdan. After years of research on plant-dyes she created a non-hair drying variety of henna powder that is premium grade, lab tested with no fillers & adulterants.

97% of our clients who regularly used SVA henna for more than a year see visible improvement in their hair texture, shine and overall hair health.

Q. How long-lasting are SVA Plant Dyes?

SVA plant-based hair dyes are almost permanent — one of the biggest advantages over conventional chemical dyes. SVA Henna stains hair permanently by binding with the hair keratin, while SVA Indigo may fade very slightly over time. For many, any fading is only noticeable after 200–300 shampoos.

To put this into perspective — apply some henna paste on your fingernails (keratin, same as your hair). The henna stain on the fingernail is permanent and cannot be rinsed off! That's the power of plant-based binding.

Tip: If you notice fading, it may be due to strong surfactants in your shampoo. Simply switch to a shampoo formulated for colour-treated hair to maintain your colour longer.

Q. What are SVA Plant-Based Hair Dyes?

SVA Plant-based hair dyes are a combination of 100% plant-leaf powders with naturally occurring dyes that have the ability to bind with hair keratin. SVA Plant Dyes are almost permanent on hair and do not fade easily. Our products are well researched and studied by our in-house expert Deepali Razdan. The hair dye range is based on the chemistry of henna & indigo. Our products are 100% natural plant leaf powders with no PPD, Ammonia, Metallic Salts or Hydrogen Peroxide.

Please Note: SVA Plant Dyes are formulated for covering greys and are different from salon or regular henna. We do not use iron vessels, tea, coffee, beetroot, lemon, yogurt etc. with our powders.

Q. Why switch to SVA Plant-Based Hair Dyes?

Chemical dyes are formulated to colour and/or lighten hair using harsh chemicals. Repeat and long-term exposure results in irreversible damage — most people using chemical dyes monthly to cover greys face increased greying, dry brittle & thinning hair issues.

SVA Plant Dyes are specially formulated to cover greys while improving scalp health, hair texture, boosting shine and overall hair health. Most clients switching to SVA have 60–100% greying & damaged hair due to extensive chemical use. With regular use, most notice visible change in hair texture & shine apart from excellent grey coverage.

Furthermore, our products are free from PPD, Ammonia, Metallic Salts and Hydrogen Peroxide — making them safe to use as frequently as fortnightly to monthly. Our 2-step protocols are excellent for sensitive, irritated scalp, dry brittle hair, 100% greys and thinning hair types.

Q. How frequently can I use SVA Hair Dyes?

SVA plant-based hair dyes are 100% natural, high quality herbs that are gentle for your hair & scalp. They add immense benefits with repeat applications and help improve hair texture. Since they are 3rd party lab-tested for adulterants like PPD, Ammonia & Metallic Salts, SVA plant dyes are safe to use as frequently as every 15 days for root touch-ups.

Q. What is the difference between the 1-step and 2-step method?

1-Step Method: Great for someone looking to cover greys with limited time (3–4 hours processing). Achieves Auburn to dark brown shades. Some individuals with resistant greys, extensive front greys, or non-porous hair may require 1–2 repeat applications to achieve best results. Most see great coverage within 2–3 regular applications.

2-Step Method: Delivers 100% Colour & Coverage right from the 1st attempt. Achieves dark brown to Jet Black shades. Henna step requires 4–6 hrs of processing; Plant Toner/Indigo step is 60–90 mins — ideally spread over 2 days. Visible hair quality & texture improvement noticed within 6–8 months with this method.

Q. What are the different product types available?

SVA Plant Dye range is available in 1-step and 2-step processes.

  • 1-Step (1-pot method): Mix both henna and indigo dyes together in one pot and apply.
  • 2-Step method: Each paste is applied one at a time. First apply henna paste, then after washing, apply indigo paste as a 2nd step to achieve the final shade.

Q. Which is the hottest selling product?

It depends on your hair goals and objectives. That said, our hottest selling product is our 2-Step Noor Henna and Plant Toner combo — also known as the 3-in-1 combo for its 100% Grey Coverage, Colour and Conditioning.

This is an excellent combination for any percentage of greys and all hair/scalp types. Highly recommended for sensitive, irritated, damaged, allergy-prone scalps. Visible hair texture improvement is noticed with regular use.

Q. When should I start using SVA Plant-Based Hair Dyes?

Earlier you ADOPT, easier to ADAPT. You can use SVA plant dyes to cover your greys at any time. Start with the earlier onset of greying — it is an excellent choice for people with premature grey hair issues.

Q. Can I do a Keratin treatment over hair treated with SVA Hair Dye?

YES! You can very well do a KERATIN treatment over SVA plant-based hair dyes. Hair treated with SVA Henna & Indigo does NOT interact with any salon/chemical treatment including chemical dyes. However, remember any heat treatment will further intensify (darken) your hair colour.

Q. Can I use chemical dye over hair treated with SVA Hair Dye?

YES, you can very well use chemical dyes on hair treated with SVA plant-based hair dyes. However, if planning to lighten the hair shade you might need repeat applications with chemicals to achieve the desired lighter colour. We recommend avoiding bleach on SVA Plant Dyes treated hair — using hair bleach on henna-treated hair can result in a greenish tint for some.

Q. Can I use SVA Plant Dyes over chemically treated hair?

YES, you can very well use SVA plant-based hair dyes on chemically treated or bleached hair. SVA plant dyes are lab-tested powders and do not react with chemical dyes. However, you might need repeat applications to achieve the desired shade in case of chemically bleached hair.
